Quintessential Thought

All of us carry some kind of baggage at work related to humor. Maybe we were on the receiving end of a joke that went too far. Maybe we felt like we had to hide our true selves because “This is a serious place of business.” Regardless of what we’ve been through, there is a healthy time and place for humor in the workplace.

Good:

  • Alleviates tension

  • Increases oxygen to the brain

  • Breaks up the monotony

  • Uplifts creativity

  • Ties people closer together

Bad:

  • When it belittles someone

  • When it diverts attention

  • When people feel left out by inside jokes

Leverage humor so that it helps accentuate the positive while not introducing the negative.
